Indonesia MotoGP Sprint Recap 2025

Before we even got to see the world’s best attack the beautiful 4.3km (2.67mi) Madalika Curcuit, Maverick Vinales’s decided to withdraw, saying he was in too much discomfort to compete. He was to start from last place (P20) anyway and after struggling throughout Friday and Saturday with the intense fast changes of direction, he’s also unlikely to start in tomorrow’s race.

The Aura Farming boat kid/legend from Indonesia, viral for his dance moves and a trend setter for sporting celebrations worldwide, Rayyan Arkan Dikha, was front a centre and building up the ‘aura’ before the race started.

Acosta finishing in P2 behind Martin last year, and with the best launching MotoGP bike, looks likely to end on the podium thanks to starting in the 2nd row. At least expect some tussling with his rival, Aldeguer. Aldeguer himself, looking to get his first win in his rookie season and potentially become the youngest sprint winner ever. Without Alex or Marc sitting infront of him this time, it could be his best chance. Bez looking in a class of his own and on the hunt to steal 3rd from Bagnaia in the championship, has plenty of motivation, especially knowing Alex is in P7, Marc is starting in P12 and Bagnaia in P16.

Conditions are hot but there are clouds about so it will be interesting to see how many crashes we have in these conditions.

Alright and we’re off! Bez with an aweful launch gets eaten up by the first 2 rows into turn 1, all getting decent launches. Honda’s Marini with the best launch, but Aldeguer leading from Fernandez, Marini and Acosta as even Alex and Marc have gotten past Bez who got squeezed to the outside of the pack. By turn 3 Bez is sitting in 8th.

Marc with a super aggressive launch down the inside of Rin’s, forcing both wide unnecessarily. Bez gaining P6 from that tussle. Then Rin’s, who had to swerve to not end up in the gravel trap, nearly crashed into Bastianini at the back of the pack as he re-entered without looking.

Aldeguer racing ahead at the front while the drama plays out behind. Acosta getting past Marini and all over Fernandez who is in hot pursuit of the leader. Bagnaia is still in P16 after 2 laps.

Yellow flags out for Chantra crashing at the very back and at the same time Aldeguer making a mistake by nearly tucking the front into turn 16, allowing Fernandez and Acosta to be all over each other for that lead. Acosta with a second attempt gets past Fernandez.

Marc Marquez, hot off the world championship title win, is given a long lap penalty for “Causing contact” with Rin’s. Aldeguer off his mistake then sets the fastest lap while Bez makes progress and gets past Alex Marquez. He then has an excited attempt at overtaking Marini for 4th but runs well wide.

Marc then serves his Long Lap and drops back in behind Miller in P15. After 3 laps, Aldeguer is 1.6 seconds ahead of Bez in P5.

Bastianini then bringing out more yellow flags as his weekend goes from bad to worse. Bagnaia somehow going backwards and ending up in P17 of 17 riders left in the race.

Bez having a 3rd attempt at Marini, runs wide again. He has better pace but is not able to find a way through on the Honda, meanwhile the leader is over 2 seconds ahead and Alex is right behind.

Knowing his time is running out, Bez has another attempt, but again runs wide and is clearly getting a bit frustrated under that helmet. The gap now at the front is half a second between Acosta and Aldeguer and over a second behind is Fernandez.

Acosta then crashing out after pushing that RC16 too far in the chase for victory. He had brought that gap to Aldeguer right down to a few meters but tucked the front into turn 1. Aldeguer is now 2 seconds ahead of the Aprillia of Fernandez. Marini makes a small mistake and allows Alex to get ahead.

So its Aldeguer ahead of Fernandez, Bezzecchi, Alex Marquez, Marini, Morbidelli, Binder, Mir and Diggia in the last points position.

Bez then with the fastest lap of the race, even while overtaking Marini. Has a mission ahead to catch Fernandez 3/4 of a second ahead and Aldeguer 2 seconds past him with only 7 laps to go.

Marc has clawed back to P11 but Bagnaia is over 13 seconds back from the lead and we’re only just over halfway into the Sprint. Tomorrow may be a very long race for last weeks Pole, Sprint and Race winner. For perspective Bez is in the 1.29’s and Bagnaia has just hit the 1.31’s.

Bez with another fastest lap and all over the rear of the P2 Fernandez in just 1 lap. Aldeguer gets a track limits warning on lap 7 while dipping into the 1.29’s to respond to Bez.

Bez! What a move on lap 8, getting into P2 and now the hunt begins! Clear road ahead of him and within 2 seconds to hunt for the win.

Joan Mir into 6th with a nice overtake on Morbidelli and now Honda 5th and 6th. After a failed first move on Binder, Marc gets through and immediately ahead, Diggia runs wide and pulls in to split Marc and Binder. Marc then into 8th and in the points again.

Bez then taking half a second out of Aldeguer and setting another fastest lap of the race with a 1.29.638. Faster than most of the grid in qualifying, he would have been P7 with that time!

Bagnaia update; on lap 10/13 he is sitting 21 seconds behind and completely on his own in the last position and 8 seconds behind Alex Rins in P15.

Game on at the front as Bez takes a massive 0.741 out of Aldeguer’s lead and now its only a 1 second advantage with 3 laps to go. Yellow flags out again as Zarco lost the front after going a little wide and onto the greasy part of the track.

Aldeguer dropping back into the 1.29’s but still Bez took another 0.5 out of his lead.

2 laps to go and Marc gets through on Morbidelli for P7, which will still be his worst Sprint result of 2025.

Last lap and another blistering time from the front 2, but Bez is all over the number 54. Meanwhile Quartararo crashes out of P14 and yet another set of Yellow Flags but well behind the lead pair. Bez then with super late braking, launches down the inside and pushes the rookie wide. Aldeguer not giving up that easily launches back into the next turn at Bez, but Bez on the clean line closes the door on him.

2 corners to go and sitting right on his rear but without any chances to retaliate, Aldeguer crosses the line 2 bike lengths behind Bez. Devastatingly close for the rookie but hats off to Bez who was down in P8. The pair were so much in a league of their own they finished 3.6 seconds ahead of P3 Fernandez. Both Aprilia’s on the podium and valuable points for Alex Marquez in 4th.

The order restored after 13 laps and finishing the way they started. Bagnaia with an absolute shocker after all that momentum from last weekend and then finishing almost 30 secs behind the winner … in the Sprint. One of the most exciting and epic comebacks ever. Fermin Aldeguer after leading for 213 corners of 221 in total, had to settle for a brutally close finish and miss his chance for a first MotoGP win.

Bez winning his 3rd Sprint and definenently his closest at only .1 of a second. He looks wrecked but will surely be the man to beat tomorrow.

The first time this year a podium without a Marquez on it. Aldeguer with his first 2nd after 2x 3rd places this season, the 20 year old will be back though, maybe even for the race tomorrow. Hopefully another thriller.
